The aim of this article is to discuss the conceptual delimitation of Developmental Psychology taking into account new tendencies and perspectives in this field. As developmental psychologists face new challenges and this field of study develops new paradigms appear and offer theoretical and methodological support to the work of psychologists and professionals of related areas. Another aim is to present an up to date of the historical description of the evolution of this field of research from the formative years to now. Finally based on the “workshops” of ANPEPP (X e XI Symposium) we analyse the tendencies of Brazilian scientific production in this field.
