Understanding the CVA patient’s caretaker

Abstract

This study aimed at obtaining information about family caretaker of a patient sequelae due to there are just a few studies about this theme and to caretaker’s importance to diary life, and to patient’s recuperation. Departing from disease characterization, 10 interviews were undertaken in order to evaluate emotional, social, physical and economic consequences to them as well as the whole family. The study showed that women, as caretaker, changes her routine, and arrangements of domestic, professional and social life, and a decreased relation between family income and expenses, often leading to physical and emotional stress. Bringing up the importance of family’s caretaker, particularly families with low income, it pointed out the need of Public Policies in taking into account homecare, and for a better support to caretaker by uncharged professionals.
