Abstract

This paper describes the project for the undergraduate program in Psychology at Federal University of São Carlos. The program places emphasis on the education of future scientists and professionals in the field of Psychology as well as on training in scientifically based interventions. The current version of the project reaffirms the principles underlying the original proposal and incorporates a brief historical overview of the course during the period between 1994 and 2005. Additionally, this version describes some adjustments made to the project in accordance with the new Federal Guidelines for Undergraduate Courses in Psychology established in 2004. The paper also describes some data on the impact of the UFSCar course which confirms the importance of training Psychology students to become not only competent professionals, but also competent researchers and educators.
